When the idea for a parlour game took root in the mind of Jean-Pierre Brunelle, he was far from realizing his idea. As a wine enthusiast and a practical joker, that is how he describes himself, Jean Pierre Brunelle has all he needs to make a great vintage. Bacchus is the name that the Romans gave to the god of wine, and that is the name the Montrealer has chosen to give to his game.
The game's creator has spent three years developing his project, giving that extra little push over the last few months.
"I made a prototype with a piece of Styrofoam on which I glued pictures. Then, I wrote the questions. At 300, I said to myself that there were not enough, so I added another 200," says the creator. He intends to produce a second series of questions in order to give a longer life to the game.
For the game's creator, wine is a hobby which is taking up more and more of his time. As he is also a flight attendant, Jean-Pierre has travelled extensively, visiting vineyards in Italy, France, Portugal, California and Chile. He has his own wine cellar and his bookshelves are filled with books on wine. He has also taken a course given by a school specialized in wine.
"I like to think of my game as a product of the land," laughs Jean-Pierre. That is not far from the truth, because the game's printer is from the Lanaudiere area, the creator of the game and the graphic designer are from Montreal, and the wooden game pieces, miniature bottles of wine, were sculpted by an artisan from the Sherbrooke area.
The sales of both english and french version are excellent.
